I was 13 the first time I sat across from a therapist.

I was 37 when I finally found one who actually helped.

That's 24 years. Twenty-four years of sitting in offices that felt wrong, forcing myself through sessions that left me feeling worse, and quietly believing that I was just the problem. That therapy simply wasn't something that worked for me.

It wasn't that therapy wouldn’t work. It was that I had no idea how to find the right therapist — and nobody taught me.

Why I Created This Toolkit

When I finally started my real search at 36, I did it the hard way. I trusted the system, and believed that they would help. Emailed countless of psychotherapists always getting the same answer, “Right now I’m not taking on any more patients.” I sat through a first session that felt like an interview I hadn't prepared for. I left feeling confused, discouraged, and guilty — as if wanting a therapist who actually got me was somehow ungrateful.

It took eight months. Eight months of searching, waiting for answers, and hoping that somewhere out there was someone who understood me.

And once I found her — my right-fit therapist — everything changed. From that first phone call she felt different. After my first proper session with her I felt excited. Things didn’t change overnight. No, not long term. It took time. But the way I felt about going to therapy and seeing my therapist weekly changed. The kind of change that makes you realise how long you'd been carrying things alone.

After that, I couldn't stop thinking: What if I'd known how to do this earlier? What if someone had just handed me a map?

So I made one. And if you want to read the full story of that search — the rejections, the wrong fits, the moment I finally knew — it's all in The Day I Finally Found My Right-Fit Therapist.

What The Right-Fit Therapist Toolkit Actually Is

It's a 42-page, step-by-step guide that walks you through the entire process of finding a therapist who is genuinely right for you. Not just a therapist. The right one.

It's not vague advice like "just find someone you trust." It's a practical, structured system — built from my own experience — that covers everything from preparing for your search to knowing when to leave.

Here's what's inside:

The 9-Step System takes you from where you are right now to a confident decision. Step by step. No guesswork.

12+ Fillable Worksheets so you can actually use what you learn — not just read it and forget it. Therapist research forms, session evaluation sheets, progress trackers, and more.

Email Templates for every stage. First contact. Following up when you don't hear back. Asking about fees. Ending things professionally when it's not the right fit. All written, all ready to personalise and send.

Red Flag & Green Flag Checklists for phone consultations and first sessions. Because knowing what to watch for changes everything. (If you want a preview of what those red flags look like in real life, I wrote about them in What 24 Years of Bad Therapy Taught Me.)

Crisis Resources & a Safety Plan Template — because sometimes the search feels heavy, and you deserve support during it too.

A Guide to Therapy Types (CBT, DBT, EMDR, and more) so you actually understand what you're choosing between.

A Self-Advocacy Guide for when you need to speak up in healthcare settings — because you have that right, even when it doesn't feel that way.

Who This Is For

This toolkit is for anyone who has ever felt lost in the process of finding a therapist. Anyone who has wondered if they're being too picky, too difficult, or too much. Anyone who has left a session feeling worse and told themselves, “I’m overreacting. They’re the professional. They’ll know what’s best for me.”

It's for the people who have tried therapy before and it didn't work — not because therapy doesn't work, but because the match wasn't right.

It's for anyone who is starting their search fresh and wants to do it with clarity and confidence instead of confusion.

You don't need to have had bad experiences to use it. You just need to want to find someone who is genuinely right for you.

Why It's Worth the Investment

I know 25€ feels like a decision when money is tight. I know that. Mental health struggles and financial stress often walk hand in hand, and I would never want this toolkit to feel out of reach.

But here's what I want you to consider: one wrong therapist costs you far more than 25€. It costs you time. It costs you energy. It costs you trust — in yourself and in the process. For some of us, it costs years.

This toolkit doesn't guarantee you'll find your therapist in a week. But it gives you a clear, structured path — one that cuts through the confusion and helps you make confident decisions at every step. That's worth something. Especially when you're already carrying so much.

A Note on Authenticity

Everything in this toolkit comes from real experience. I'm not a therapist. I'm not a mental health professional. I'm a peer — someone who spent two decades on the wrong side of this process and finally found the right side.

That's exactly why I wrote it. Because sometimes what you need isn't clinical advice. It's someone who has been where you are and can say: here's what actually helped me, and here's how you can use it too.

This is peer support. Not a replacement for professional help — but a tool to help you find the right professional help, faster and with less pain. That's what Jotlily is all about.
