From One Lily to Another
Honest, personal writing about mental health, self-love, and healing โ written from lived experience, for people who are living it too. Every post is written by Sanni and comes straight from the heart.
Small daily habits that make a difference
Self-care doesn't have to be complicated. These are simple, accessible practices that our community has found genuinely helpful. You don't have to do them all โ just find what resonates with you today.
Journalling
Write freely without judgement โ even just 5 minutes a day can help process emotions, reduce anxiety, and build self-awareness over time.
Mindful Breathing
When emotions feel overwhelming, slow breathing signals safety to your nervous system. Try 4 counts in, hold 4, out for 6 โ and repeat until you feel steadier.
Gentle Movement
You don't need to exercise intensely. A short walk, stretching, or dancing alone in your kitchen all count. Movement helps release tension stored in the body.
Time in Nature
Even a few minutes outside โ fresh air, natural light, the sound of the world around you โ can help shift your mood and ground you in the present moment.
Music as Medicine
A curated playlist for your mood can be a powerful emotional tool. Create playlists for different emotional states โ and let music meet you where you are.
Reaching Out
Connection is one of the most powerful forms of self-care. Sending one message, joining one conversation, or asking for help โ all of these matter more than they might seem.
Understanding yourself is the first step to healing
Knowledge reduces fear. The more we understand about how our minds and emotions work, the less alone and confused we feel. These are starting points โ not diagnoses, just doors.
Understanding Anxiety
Anxiety is your nervous system trying to protect you โ but sometimes it gets stuck in overdrive. Learning to recognise your triggers and responses is the foundation for managing it.
What Depression Really Feels Like
Depression isn't always sadness. It can look like numbness, exhaustion, irritability, or simply going through the motions. Understanding this helps us be kinder to ourselves and others.
Trauma & Its Effects
Trauma lives in the body as much as the mind. Understanding how trauma responses work โ fight, flight, freeze, fawn โ can help make sense of reactions that might otherwise feel confusing or shameful.
Self-Compassion vs. Self-Criticism
Many of us are our own harshest critics. Self-compassion isn't weakness โ it's a proven path toward healing. Learning to speak kindly to yourself changes everything.
These topics are shared for educational purposes from a peer perspective. For diagnosis or treatment, always consult a qualified mental health professional.
